Wedding videographers joke that they can spend more time searching for the perfect music for the highlight film than at the actual wedding.

We always want to match the music to the day’s vibe and the couple’s preference, yet sometimes it’s difficult to know what will be perfect.

One important note is that all music for your wedding’s highlight video should come from a website that offers a license to use the music.

Should the Couple Be Involved in Choosing the Music?

Many wedding videographers do not let couples choose the highlight video’s music or request edits for their videos. I am not one of these videographers.

It’s your special day, and I’m there to make videos you’ll love forever. Although I’m happy to choose the music for you and prefer to do so, I’m happy to use whatever licensed music you want.

Why Use Licensed Music for Wedding Videos?

To avoid copyright violations, it’s important to use licensed music.

Lawsuits are not unheard of for breaking copyright laws. According to Thomson Reuters, copyright lawsuits typically range from $750 to $30,000.

You may think a wedding videographer isn’t going to get sued, but I have a photographer friend who was sued for $50,000 for posting a slideshow on YouTube with unlicensed music. He settled, and his insurance covered him, but it’s not an experience anyone wants.

The bottom line is that we need licensed music for your wedding highlight video because this is a business transaction.

Where to Get Licensed Music

There are two great sites for wedding highlight videos:

  1. Musicbed – the most popular site for wedding highlight music, but primarily songs you’ve never heard
  2. Fyrfly – more mainstream songs than Musicbed

Both sites have pros and cons, but they offer many great songs overall.

MusicBed

Musicbed has a great AI search feature. However, you can spend days combing through all the possibilities.

Use the “search by song” feature to find music similar to what you like.

They also have “Playlists” and several other ways to search.

Songs often have different versions, such as instrumental and “with oohs and ahhs.” If you’ve found a song you’d like me to use, please share exact song being super careful of the other versions.

Fyrfly

If a more mainstream song would work better for your wedding highlight video, then you might prefer Fyrfly, and I made Fyrfly playlist with some great options.

Fyrfly music often works better with elopements and weddings without reception footage, but not in all cases. Even couples with all-day weddings choose songs from Fyrfly, and their videos turn out great.

Final Recommendations for Your Highlight Video’s Music

For couples who like a wide range of music, finding music that fits your day is not difficult.

For couples who like a specific genre, like country music, it’s best to take a little more time. You can choose your music or give suggestions to help you find what you love.

Either way, don’t stress. Your wedding videos are going to be amazing, and you’ll cherish them for years to come.
